Video tutorials to improve your golf game this winter
What to practice this winter? golfretreats.com head coach Stuart Reynolds pinpoints two key areas you can look at inside and out to improve your golf game as the wet and cold weather closes in…
As the wet and cold close in on us, winter can be a great time to practice literally ‘game-changing’ elements of your golf.
For me, winter shouldn’t be seen as the frustrating time of year when you can’t get on the course or it’s too cold to stand on the range! To me, this time of year is an opportunity to improve your golf game by deconstructing parts of your game and rebuilding them stronger and better for when the good weather returns.
In my last blog I talked about the importance of making a plan to help guide and focus your practice. Here are two areas (chipping and putting) you can get back to basics with. Look at them consistently throughout the winter indoors as well as out. Two to three short 15-min practices each week will pay dividends for you.
Improve your golf game: Shallow chipping
Wet, wintry weather increases the possibility of losing the leading edge into the soft ground. Take the opportunity to look at your set-up and angle of attack. Then practice ‘clipping’ the ball until the movement feels comfortable. This practice benefit will carry through to the whole of your short game as you increase your awareness of the low point of your swing and improve your golf game.
Improve your golf game: Putting alignment
So simple but so true. Getting your eye alignment right in relation to the ball is a big part of consistent, points-scoring putting. Again, practicing your awareness of this so you’re confident that you are seeing the line correctly, and not a skewed version, is key to lasting gains on the course.
